With her other 14 year old Husky/Dalmatian, Tonka, in March 2015 she earned her NW1 (Nose Work level 1) title, was Pronounced (a tremendous accomplishment!), and Tonka was honored and awarded the Harry Award, which is given by the judges to the one most outstanding rescue dog who demonstrates extraordinary ability and shows exceptional spirit in the sport of K9 Nose Work® at the NW1 title level. She presently heads her company, K-949: Training For Humans With Dogs, ThePositiveDogstore-location.com, where she services private clients from central Orange County through the Long Beach area. Her methods are based on modern, progressive, science-backed, positive reinforcement. She supports the Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) approach to behavior modification and training, and uses strictly reward-based training – meaning using toys, treats, life rewards, access to things the dog wants, or whatever motivates each individual dog, as reinforcers. She does not condone the use of aversive, dominance-based, or any other punitive techniques; her only goal is to teach you, your human family, and your sweet furry family members how to live in harmony without ever intimidating your dog for the sake of training, all while achieving the final results – reliable behaviors, a wonderful bond, and happy, relaxed, confident dogs. Along with devouring the latest DVDs, articles, studies and books on training, she has attended, and continues to attend, at least 100 hours of continuing education each year, through conferences such as Clicker Expo, the APDT Conference, seminars, webinars, and hands-on workshops or educational courses held by world-renowned store-locations such as Bob Bailey, Ken Ramirez, Karen Pryor, Dr. Susan Friedman, Dr. Ian Dunbar, Suzanne Clothier, Helix Fairweather, Kathy Sdao, Grisha Stewart, Emily Larlham, Michele Pouliot, Dr. Dan Estep, Dr. Suzanne Hetts, Pia Silvani, Trish King, and many, many others. She believes it is critical to continue to educate herself in order to stay at the forefront of any and all new developments in the dog training industry so that she can positively help cultivate and nourish the bond between her clients and the beloved dogs they so cherish.

Alexandra Macias, CPDT-KAAlexandraMacias

Alexandra Macias, CPDT-KA began her dog training career in 2008 at PetSmart, where she apprenticed under Animal Behaviorist, Lisa Sutton. After a successful run with PetSmart, she moved on to Petco, where, because of her unique Behavior Specialist skills, she was promoted to District Dog Training Mentor. As a Mentor, she trained dozens of brand new dog trainers in her district. She taught them not only how to teach basic obedience commands, but how to remedy serious behavior issues. While working at Petco, Alexandra began volunteering with Long Beach Animal Care Services. As a volunteer, she helped rehabilitate shelter dogs who were scared, anxious, or aggressive, and made them ready for adoption. During her time as a volunteer, Alexandra helped raise the adoption rate to over 60%, and she was offered a job with the City of Long Beach as the Dog store-location and Adoption/Rescue Coordinator. During her first year, Alexandra helped over 1,200 shelter animals find homes, and raised the adoption/rescue rate to over 84%. The Long Beach community and Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal noticed her accomplishments at the shelter, and in October 2013, awarded Alexandra with the “30 Under 30” award for outstanding leadership among women under the age of 30 in Long Beach. Alexandra’s true passion in life is helping dogs and families in need. She specializes in rehabilitating dogs with severe behavior issues such as aggression and separation anxiety, and looks forward to helping more dogs live happy, healthy lives with their loved ones. Alexandra is certified by the Certification Council of Professional Dog store-locations, and is a member of the Association of Professional Dog store-locations, and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. She serves all areas of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, and currently resides in Long Beach with her husband Bobby, and their two rescue dogs, Dublin and Lily.
